Canon: Magic Kaito/Detective Conan (yes both of them - it's a shared universe)
Pull-point: The Bell Tree Express (Detective Conan), Dark Knight (Magic Kaito)
Power Opt-in post link: in reference to his pickpocketing/creeper tendencies here
Content Opt-out post link: n/a
Age: 17
Gender/Sex: Male
Appearance: Height: 174 cm (5'8.5"), Weight 58 kg (128 lbs). Eye colour blue. Hair Black-brown and forever messy. He does, in fact, look remarkably like a messy Shinichi Kudo - enough that he has disguised as him without a mask. They also sound alike.
As the KID he wears a white jacket with a blue button down shirt and a pink/red tie. Blue socks, white loafers, white gloves, a white top hat, and a monocle with a triangular four-leaf clover charm complete the suit. He has a white cape that doubles as a hang-glider clipped to his shoulders.
History:
Once upon a time there was a thief who dressed all in white and couldn't be stopped. Sadly, as sometimes happens, he ran afoul of some unsavoury people and shortly vanished, presumed killed. Around the same time, the famous magician, Toichi Kuroba, was tragically killed in an accident, leaving behind his young son and grieving wife. So let's fast forward to 8 years later. Kaito grew up in the shadow of his famous father, and a mother who as soon as he was old enough took up a jetsetting lifestyle, leaving him behind in Japan. One day, he stumbles through the portrait of his father that hung in the living room, only to find out that his father was the infamous Kaitou Kid, the phantom thief who was killed all those years ago. He takes up the mantle as there is someone out there who is using the name, only to discover that the someone in question is his father's old assistance, Jii, who is trying to draw out his father's murderers. It seems a certain gem came to his father's attention 8 years ago, Pandora, which would cry tears of immortality under the light of the moon, and he was trying to steal it, to get it away from a mysterious organisation. Sadly, they caught him first. Kaito takes up his father's mantle, and begins the long task of stealing without stealing, and trying to stay one step ahead of the organisation in question.
Personality:
As a civilian or a thief, Kaito is a performer to the core - a trickster, a joker, a prankster, he loves the rush of a successful trick, the thrill of a challenge that no one else can beat. He is cocky, self-assured and almost arrogant, which masks the vulnerabilities of a genius - he's lonely, he's bored, he misses his father and his mother only talks to him over Skype, and he really only has one good friend for a long time - and she's his love interest and the daughter of the cop trying to catch him (his OTHER "friends" are his dad's old assistant, the witch who wants him to fall in love with her...and the genius detectives trying to catch him. Yeah.). His stated goal is to be a magician as good as his father. He is a genius (IQ level is supposedly 400) who entertains himself by playing pranks, peeking on the girls in their change rooms, flipping their skirts and provoking his best friend/love interest into chasing him around class with a mop. All while getting perfect scores. As the thief he is a charmer, knowing just what to say to the ladies, stealing kisses and hearts. He plays very much to the gentleman thief archetype, delivering written warnings of his heists and is very much against causing harm, and will in fact go out of his way to try and save people. He has his own sense of honor and tends to return the things he stole (since none of them are Pandora, after all), but always to the "rightful" owner. He has also demonstrated his caring side by "stealing" things like "a mother's attention" for her child, and other such things. He has, owing to his dislike for seeing people hurt, worked with Conan at times, and has been shown to be something of a stalker, and highly over-prepared for every eventuality, which doubtless helps his reputation as an uncatchable thief. He is also, amusingly, EXTREMELY afraid of fish.
Abilities:
(1) Intelligence - Kaito is very smart, with genius level intellect - at one point said to have an IQ of 400
(2) Magician - Kaito is a superb magician, capable of feats of slight of hand that verge on impossible, secreting umpteen doves and cards and various paraphanalia on his person
(3) Inventor - tying into the above, Kaito has a card gun (yes a gun that shoots cards) long before he becomes the KID (and how no one ties them together when said gun becomes KID's signature move I don't know...) that he invented himself. The hang-glider came with the suit, but he also has smoke bombs, sleep gas, roller skates built into his shoes, blimps with dummies of himself, fake arms.... in short, anything and everything a prankster/magician/thief would need, and one assumes he makes a good deal of them himself, as who on earth would want pink smoke bombs.
(4) Master of Disguise - Kaito has been proven to be able to mimic anyone's voice, and disguise himself so thoroughly that no one is able to prove he is not the real thing without paying very careful attention. He also sometimes wears multiple masks, if he thinks he might be exposed, and is something of a quick change artist, once dressing his best friend in a ball gown in seconds.
(5) Ventriloquist - although he does have gadgets to help with this (bugs and mikes and apparently tiny cameras his pigeons carry, no really), he can throw his voice with the best of them
(6) Thief - he can pick locks, pick pockets and is a master escape artist. Presumably, he can also hack computers as he has been shown using them a few times in the past
(7) Kaito is ambidextrous, and has a bevy of useful skills such as skiing, paragliding, hang-gliding, being an ace shot........but he cannot ice skate, and he cannot play billards.
Inventory:
He is coming in in his KID gear so:
(1) several sets of cards - so that he can cheat at poker, of course! (there are a suspicious number of aces in the decks)
(2) his card gun which shoots cards glued to something hard and sharp - he has been shown to slice wood with the things
(3) two pigeons (in his hat)
(4) a change of clothes into his black school uniform and a baseball cap
(5) several smoke bombs - shall we say... 5? With the gear to make more. They look like little steel marbles.
(6) several sleeping gas bombs - ditto the above
(7) card ammo for his gun - some are slicy, some explode into a smoke screen - maybe a standard two pack of cards?
(8) a whole bunch of multicoloured scarves tied to each other
(9) glitter
(10) makeup kit, hair dye (basic disguise kit)
(11) lockpicks
(12) two small camera bugs that can attach to his pigeons (which will rapidly run out of battery)
(13) a torch
(14) a handful of magician's roses
(15) a string of tiny flags (look I don't know he seems to carry them around to use as embellishment)
(16) confetti
(17) masking tape
(18) rope
